CLINTON, Mont. – A plane crash in Montana killed one of the stars of the TV show Ice Road Truckers and his co-pilot.

The plane carrying Darrell Ward crashed while attempting to land at Rock Creek Airport Sunday afternoon, according to KPAX. The Cessna 182 was approaching the private airstrip when it stalled, witnesses said. The plane crashed on the shoulder of I-90 near the eastbound lanes.

A post on Ward’s Facebook page said he’d just left a show in Dallas and was heading to Missoula, Mont., to begin filming a pilot for a new documentary. Ward, 52, rose to fame on the History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers and had just finished filming for the show’s tenth season.

It’s with great sadness to report we have lost our Montana Legend at the young age of 52.

Darrell Ward had just left The Great American Truck Show in Dallas, Texas where he enjoyed meeting numerous fans and friends and was heading to Missoula to begin filming a pilot for his new documentary style show involving the recovery of plane wrecks when he and his co-pilot crashed and lost their lives.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
