INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – CBS4 and the Indianapolis Colts are teaming up with Cargo Services, Inc., and the Indiana Department of Child Services for a book drive as the Colts open the regular season against the Detroit Lions.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, volunteers will collect books outside the gates at Lucas Oil Stadium for the “Books for Youth” program. All donations will support the program, which the Colts and DCS started in 2006. “Books for Youth” provides Indiana foster children with a backpack filled with 25 age-appropriate books.

To date, more than 800,000 books have been collected and more than 7,500 backpacks have been distributed as part of the program. Learn more about the initiative at the Colts website.

Fans can give new or gently used books for children ranging from infants to 18 years old. You can donate money through the Text-to-Give Program by texting 243725. Message and data rates apply.

You can also support the program by buying a backpack through the Colts Pro Shop online. For each backpack purchased, the Colts will donate one book-filled backpack to an Indiana foster child.
