Police: Man accused of killing 4-year-old boy was frustrated with unemployment, increasing bills
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A 4-year-old Texas boy died after his mother’s boyfriend threw him against a sofa because he was frustrated at being unemployed, police say.
Ricardo Hernandez, 21, told police in San Antonio that bills were piling up and he took it out on 4-year-old Jordan Altamirano.
Hernandez was taking care of the boy and his three siblings Saturday. He originally told police that the boy came to him with a stuffy nose and he told him to go to bed. Hernandez then said he later found him unresponsive, KSAT reported.
But investigators said the injuries, which included a broken back and torn aorta, didn’t match that account. During a subsequent interview, Hernandez said he threw the boy against a sofa. He told police he was frustrated when the boy came up to him crying and wanting attention.
Hernandez was booked on a capital murder charge with bond set at $500,000.
