NEW PALESTINE, Ind. – Police are searching for the thief or thieves who broke into 15 vehicles in a neighborhood outside New Palestine Wednesday night.

It seems the thieves were mainly interested in stealing money, because police say some of the vehicles contained electronics, but they were left untouched. Some of the vehicles broken into didn’t even have anything taken.

An unmarked Indiana State Police pick-up truck was among the vehicles stolen from. The thieves broke out the driver’s side window to steal a personally owned Glock .40 caliber handgun along with a magazine.

Police say several of the vehicles were left unlocked. Officers encourage people to lock their vehicles, remove any valuable and report any suspicious activity. They also say to avoid leaving any amount of money visible from the outside.  A small amount of visible change often is enough for a thief to break to steal the contents.

Surveillance cameras captured one of the suspects on tape. Anybody with information about these crimes are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
