Police identify bicyclist killed in south side hit-and-run; suspect arrested
Joshua Stephens pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident committed after committing OWI on Oct. 4. He was sentenced to 4 years of prison and 2 years of probation.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– A bicyclist was killed Friday evening on the south side in a hit-and-run.
Crews were called to the 2100 block of South East Street, near East Raymond Street, just before 7 p.m.
Paramedics pronounced the victim, later identified as 60-year-old James C. Nielsen Jr., dead at the scene.
With the help of the public officers, the suspect was quickly located.
24-year-old Joshua Stephens was taken to Eskenazi for a standard blood draw. Stephens was then arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
