Center Grove High School ready to unveil “new look” football stadium
GREENWOOD, Ind. –The start of the 2016 Indiana High School football season will have special meaning Friday night when the Center Grove Trojans unveil their “new look” football stadium which will have new bleachers, a new press box and a new name.
The bleachers became the subject of much concern when they were deemed unsafe following a failed load and structural integrity test back in February. The bleachers, which were originally installed 40 years ago -in 1976, were then torn down in March. Workers then began putting in new bleachers in June and also began building the new press box.
The opportunity to upgrade was made possible after the Center Grove School Board gave their approval to negotiate with community donors to cover the cost of the bleachers and for building a new press box.
Soon thereafter, local auto dealer Ray Skillman donated $1.5 million dollars to cover the costs of replacing the bleachers for both the home and visitor sides while the cost for the new press box was picked up through other community donations.
The new bleachers will increase seating capacity for the home bleachers by 1,033 seats and the visitor bleachers by 840 seats for a total seating capacity of 5,886.
The defending 6A State champs will open the season against Warren Central with a 7 p.m. kick-off Friday night.
