INDIANAPOLIS — Police are looking for the person who tried to grow several marijuana plants along the Monon trail on the near northeast side.
Police say a hiker found the pot Saturday afternoon in a field near the Monon trail and Sutherland Avenue. Police collected nine potted marijuana plants and one that was in the ground. They say it is not common to find a grow like this next to the Monon, because the trail is so busy.
“It kinda makes you scratch your head," said Sgt. Kendale Adams with IMPD. "What would somebody be thinking in such a public place that is viewed by so many people? Why they would plant marijuana there? Obviously it’s got police baffled a little bit.”
However, officers are thankful the anonymous hiker did the right thing by immediately reporting the marijuana grow.
This turned out to be a pretty substantial grow," said Adams. “We have kids on the Monon we have families on the Monon. Obviously there are pets on the Monon. An animal could’ve eaten that.”
Police do not have any suspects yet.
