AVON, Ind. – A police officer rescued an unresponsive elderly woman from a pool in Avon Saturday.

Officer Adam Barnhart, who has been on the force for over 10 years, responded to the drowning at a home in the 300 block of South Avon Avenue around 3:55 p.m. after receiving a partial 911 call.

When Officer Barnhart arrived, he found 73-year-old Maryann Lawson being held up in the water by her daughter. The officer then pulled her out.

Police say Maryann was not breathing, so the officer performed CPR on her until medics arrived. Once they arrived, Maryann was transferred to Hendricks Regional Hospital, breathing and with a pulse.

We’re told the woman is in stable condition and is recovering. Officials are unsure whether she experienced any medical issues prior to going under the water.

On Sunday, Officer Barnhart paid a visit to Maryann to check on her and bring her flowers.
