Semi part hits windshield, kills Owen County woman; officers search for truck driver
OWEN COUNTY, Ind. – A woman was killed in Owen County on Wednesday when a part from a semi struck her car’s windshield.
According to the Owen County Sheriff’s Department, authorities were called to the scene of a crash around 6 p.m. on State Road 46 near Flatwoods Road.
Responding emergency personnel located a car off the side of the road. The car had a large hole on the windshield on the driver’s side.
The driver, later identified as Sarah Carr, 31, of Spencer, was transported to IU Health Bloomington where she was later pronounced dead.
Numerous witnesses told police that a large piece of a brake drum came off a semi, bounced in the roadway, and went through Carr’s windshield. Carr’s vehicle went off the roadway and down an embankment before hitting a utility pole.
A second car was also damaged from a piece of the brake drum.
The Owen County Sheriff’s Department is trying to locate the semi driver. The only information they have about the truck is the back of the trailer was silver with dark green trim. Anyone with information about the semi is asked to call 812-829-4874.
