Investigators say remains found in Shelby County are those of woman, no identity released yet

Update (September 1, 2016) – The remains were identified as missing Columbus woman Nicolle Olmstead.

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – Remains discovered in Shelby County this week are those of a woman, investigators confirmed Friday morning.

According to Major Louie Koch with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the remains belong to a white female. Koch said investigators don’t currently know the woman’s identity.

Deputies were alerted to the remains Monday and found them in the southwest part of the county.

An anthropologist at the University of Indianapolis was called to the scene to assist. Indiana State Police investigators helped remove the remains from the area.

Koch said there was no further information to release at this time. Analysis of the remains continues.
