We have two very hot afternoons to get through. By 3 p.m. today and tomorrow you can expect heat indices around 100. Try to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the heat of the day (noon to 4 p.m.) and wear light colored clothing. This will help you stay cool. Also remember to drink more water and eat smaller meals. This will help you stay safe during the oppressive heat.
We also have spotty afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast. By 3 p.m. today, we're looking at 30% coverage. There is a slightly higher chance south of I-70, but all are fair game for a storm today. Storms that do develop will stay below severe criteria, but some heavy downpours and gusty winds are possible. Storms will die down after sunset tonight.
A cold front will cross Central Indiana on Friday and bring a 40% chance for storms Friday afternoon and evening. This cold front will also be the game changer to knock the heat and humidity out of the air for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be VERY comfy, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80s. More heat and humidity build back in next week.
