Police arrest man after fatal shooting on east side

Jamarr Edmond was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. He was sentenced on Jan. 31, 2018 to 34 years in prison with about a year of jail credit.


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested a man following a deadly shooting on the east side Tuesday night.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to the 6500 block of East 25th Street after reports of a shooting in the area. Officers saw a silver vehicle speed away from the scene and head south on Kitley Avenue.

A witness told officers that the passenger in the car may have been a shooting victim. Officers stopped the vehicle at 21st and Arlington, where they found Deontae Davis, 24, Indianapolis, had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives investigating the shooting developed information leading them to Jamarr Edmond, 25. Police questioned Edmond about the shooting and arrested him on a preliminary charge of murder.

Police said it appeared two groups of people were involved in an argument before the fatal shooting. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for a charging decision.
