Ambulance crashes on Keystone Ave. while transporting shooting victim to hospital

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—An ambulance transporting a shooting victim to the hospital was involved in a crash on Indy’s near northeast side.

The accident occurred at Keystone Avenue and 24th Street near Interstate 70 and involved four vehicles, including the ambulance.

Officials say the ambulance was transporting one of two shooting victims to the hospital.

The shootings occurred in the Clark gas station parking lot at 38th and Oxford just after 2 p.m. When officers arrived to the scene, they found numerous shell casings but no victims.

Officers later received a call that a man, who had been shot, was at a bus stop at 38th and Rural. Crews then reported to 34th and Sherman, where a woman suffering from a gunshot wound was found.

Police believe both victims were shot in the gas station parking lot before fleeing the area.

An ambulance transporting one of the victims to Eskenazi Hospital crashed on Keystone while en route. The patient was transferred into another ambulance and taken to the hospital.

The two shooting victims are listed in stable condition.

Two Indianapolis Fire Department personnel, along with an Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services EMT and paramedic were on the ambulance and were taken to the hospital for evaluation. They were released from the hospital with no serious injuries.
