INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A man was sentenced to one year of prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to fleeing the scene of a car crash that killed a 13-year-old in March of 2011.

A judge also dealt Christopher Stimac one year of probation.

13-year-old Hadleigh Cave died in the crash in the 5100 block of South Franklin Road when Stimac struck Cave with his vehicle while she was walking with her friends.

In June 2015, the IMPD Hit and Run Unit was contacted by Stimac’s estranged wife.  The information she provided allowed detectives to gather the evidence necessary to arrest and charge Stimac for leaving the scene of the crash.

Stimac pleaded guilty to the felony charge in early June.
