Muncie police arrest woman after her 5 children were found in ‘unsanitary’ conditions

Heather Parks pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent in May 2017 and was sentenced to 12 months in jail, all suspended to probation.

MUNCIE, Ind. – A Muncie mom is facing numerous child neglect charges after police found her children living in horrible conditions.

Heather Parks, 37, was arrested on Thursday when police say they discovered her five children were not being cared for properly.

Police say there was no working plumbing inside the home, and there was standing water and fecal matter on the walls and carpet. Mold was growing on the walls and ceilings, and the children didn’t have clean clothes.

According to police, there was only one mattress inside the home, and there was no food.

Police also found at least 13 animals. The animal shelter rescued the animals which included 10 reptiles, one dog, and one cat. They also found several dead chameleons.

Parks was charged with five counts of neglect of a dependent.

The children were placed in the care of CPS.
