INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- An Indianapolis mother needs a kidney, and she’s making sure everyone knows.

Misty Vincent, 34, has been on the kidney donor list for three years. She said recently she started to lose hope, so she decided to do something more than just wait.  She wrote an advertisement on the back of her car.

The message says ‘Kidney needed.’  The four line message also includes a phone number, a reference number, and the blood type-0. Vincent’s car and six of her relatives’ cars have the same message.

“They were all over one day for a cookout and we just went out there and stared writing on cars,” explains Vincent.

Vincent was 15-years-old when she was diagnosed with kidney disease.  Since then, doctors monitored her and last summer her kidneys took a turn for the worse.

“I do dialysis four times a day, every four to six hours so it’s fluid I put in my stomach,” explains Vincent.

Approximately 1,200 Hoosiers are on the waiting list for a kidney.

“You start to get discouraged. You start to lose hope,” explains Vincent.

Vincent travels a lot for work so in the past two months her plea on wheels has logged a lot of miles and gotten a lot of attention.

“I just keep thinking every time I get stopped like wow, somebody really wants to help me. It surprises me every time it happens,” said Vincent.

So far, Vincent’s efforts are working.  St. Vincent’s tells us they’ve received calls from potential donors who mentioned they saw the ad driving around. Vincent is hopeful another driver could be her life saving donor.

“It’s definitely uplifts me and gives me hope that it’s coming.  My time is coming. I just have to keep waiting."
