INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Hoosiers offered their take on a possible Trump-Pence ticket, many with mixed reactions to the pairing.

As news broke that Governor Mike Pence would almost certainly become Donald Trump's choice for Vice President, CBS4 went to downtown Indianapolis to see what voters thought.

Most said they were not surprised to see Pence willing to trade in the Statehouse for a shot at the White House.

"I think he would do good if Trump picked him," Jennifer Foster said.

"I have very mixed views about (him)," another voter said. "I'd probably be more against it than I would for it."

Others, like Joseph Greenwell, weren't so sure Pence would end up on the ticket.

"I was surprised. I’m not completely positive he’s going to go with it, I think he might just be testing to the waters to see what people think," Greenwell said.

Regardless of which side you're on, UIndy Assistant Professor of Political Science Laura Albright said it's easy to see why Pence is an appealing choice for Trump's camp.

"Pence really balances out the ticket and offers more of a wide base of appeal than Trump has just by himself," Albright said.

She also said that Hoosiers should see a potential Vice Presidential hopeful coming from Indiana as a positive.

"The fact that we cultivate such good political leadership that people consider our state leaders as also people who’d be great at the federal level is really to credit of Hoosier voters," Albright said.
