INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A 70-year-old woman was beaten and bloodied inside her own home Wednesday night.

The violent home invasion took place on the north side of Indianapolis near 79th and Harcourt. The suspects broke down the victim's door, pistol-whipped her, put a gun to her head, and stole cash.

And this isn't the first time it's happened either. Her family says she has been victimized twice in less than a week.

Thieves first pried her door open early Sunday morning and stole some money. The woman believes those same  suspects then returned last night looking to score some easy cash a second time, and this time they attacked her.

The crime absolutely disgusts her neighbors.

“It’s terrible. It really is,” said neighbor Charles Dixon.

“It’s very alarming.  It’s very upsetting,” said Cindy Hallberg , with the Park North neighborhood association.

“My mom is that same age and I’d hate it if that would happen to her,” said neighbor Evan Meagher.

Neighbors say the overnight violence is unfortunately nothing new.  There have been several break-ins in the north side neighborhood over the last six months.

“It’s frustrating. I’ve got Fort Knox here, and it’s still going on around me.  Five times this year within 200 feet of my house there’s been break-ins,” said Meagher.

“Hallberg says the neighborhood has hired extra security patrols recently, and many neighbors have also installed security systems. But that has not stopped the thefts. "We have had several break-ins during the day.  It appears they may be waiting until people leave and then they break in,” said Hallberg.

“We’ve got a sheriff coming by every day, but these guys are brazen,” said Meagher.

The victim did have to be taken to the hospital and got stitches in her forehead, but she will be okay.
