INDIANAPOLIS – Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating after a person was shot on the east side early Wednesday morning. Officers were called to the intersection of East 25th Street and North Sherman Drive shortly after 1:30 a.m. on reports of a person shot.

According to investigators, a convertible was parked near an ATM in that intersection, and the victim was lying on the ground outside of the vehicle. So far, investigators have not released the victim's name.

Officers also say they found some money on the ground in the area, although they say it's unclear whether he was using the ATM when he was shot. paramedics transported the victim to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Neighbors in the area say it seems that violent crime happens in these parts often.

"You can’t go to the bank, you cant go to the grocery store, it's just not safe no more,” said Simona Jordan, who has lived nearby for many years.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
