GREENFIELD, Ind. - CBS4 This Morning continues our Nicole in Your Neighborhood series with Yelp to give you an inside look at local businesses in our community. Anchor Nicole Pence will bring you a new feature story every Wednesday on CBS4 This Morning.
It's a brand new spot in Greenfield named in honor of one of Indiana's most famous poets. Griggsby's Station is located on Main Street, also known as U.S. 40. The menu is chef-driven, locally-sourced and always rotating.
"This is Griggsby’s Station downtown Greenfield. It is named after the poem by James Whitcomb Riley whose house is located just a few blocks away," explains General Manager Ian Rossman.
With the famous poem written on the back wall, Griggsby's Station is open for business in downtown Greenfield. Their tagline? Come in for a drink, stay for dinner.
"This is a gastro-pub where we use a lot of local ingredients," says Rossman.
Rossman and Executive Chef Mike Tambasco created a small, 12-item menu where each dish features from farm-to-table ingredients. Many of those ingredients come from just down the road at Tyner Pond Farms.
"Yelpers are loving that you can come into Griggsby’s and have a filet to French fries loaded with beer, cheese, chilly so you’ve got the full spectrum," explains Brittany Smith from Yelp Indy.
The drink menu is also local. Eight Indiana beers are on tap, and the cocktails are flavored with Indiana spirits. The signature drink is The Raggedy Buck, another nod to the poet James Whitcomb Riley.
"It is named after the Raggedy Ann which is another one of Riley’s poems. Old 55 bourbon made in Indiana. Aged bourbon and strawberry and ginger beer," says Rossman.
Smith says Yelpers also appreciate the staff at Griggsby's Station. The knowledge they share about the drinks, food and Indiana history makes the conversation at the long, wooden bar quite enjoyable!
Adds Smith, "when you walk into Griggsby's Station you are getting a little bit of a taste of history."
