HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (July, 12 2016) — Investigators are trying determine what caused a large fire at the Ray’s Trash Service facility off of U.S. 40 in Clayton. No one was hurt.

Crews were called there around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning after an employee saw a truck on fire. Firefighters say say 8 recycling trucks caught fire and 7 were totaled.

The owner of Ray’s, Donnie Matthews, and his employees jumped into action to start moving other trucks, while 9 fire departments from both Hendricks and Morgan county worked to battle the flames. Crews say they got it under control in about an hour, and Matthews says says he’s thankful for the swift action.

“I can’t thank my fire departments enough, and my guys that work for me and my employees — they’ll pick up the slack today,” Matthews said.

“We had a fire years ago, and we were out for two and a half days that time, so hopefully it’s a little less this time,” he said.

Matthews says service will go on as scheduled.

Arson investigators were called in, which they say is standard for a fire that size. No word yet on the cause.
