INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A woman and her 3-year-old daughter were sent to area hospitals after their vehicle collided with an Amtrak passenger train Saturday afternoon.
The collision happened around 2:50 p.m. in the 300 block of East Burgess Avenue on the city’s southeast side.
Police say the woman, who is in her early 20’s, was driving the vehicle. She was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. The child in the car was transported to Riley Hospital for Children. IFD tweeted that the child was in good condition.
The train was travelling from New York to Chicago with a stop in Indianapolis. It was carrying 130 passengers at the time. All were accounted for and okay.
Witnesses told firefighters that the car may have run into the train as it was coming through the intersection. IFD added that the warning lights were working and flashing.
