Jabril Scruggs was sentenced to 10 years, with 4 years suspended. He'll spend 6 years in the Indiana Department of Correction and will be on sex offender probation for 2 years upon release.

Scruggs also faces a murder charge in a separate case. He's due back in court in October on the murder charge.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- A former Lawrence Central student was found guilty Wednesday of raping a classmate in March of 2014.

Jabril Scruggs was 16 when he was arrested in 2014 on rape and criminal confinement charges after attacking a classmate at Lawrence Central High School.

Scruggs' defense attorney said his client didn't deny having sex with the girl, but argued it was consensual. On September 23, 2015, a jury found Scruggs not guilty of one count of criminal confinement. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a rape charge and another charge of criminal confinement.

A new trial was held Wednesday and he was found guilty of the remaining charges.

As he left the courtroom, Scruggs shouted, "I'm innocent!"

He will be sentenced on July 15.

Now that the rape case has ended, Scruggs now will move on to a homicide case.

He is accused of killing James Johnson, 16, on the playground at Hawthorne Place Apartments on East 34th Street in July of 2013.

Prosecutors were waiting for the outcome of the rape trial before pressing murder charges. As of Wednesday night, he had not been charged.
