DENVER — A woman was critically injured Tuesday in a shooting in lower downtown Denver. Police responded quickly and shut down a number of streets in the area while they dealt with an "active shooting scene."

Paramedics took victims from scene of the shooting, at 15th and Wynkoop, just blocks from the University of Colorado Denver, to area hospitals, police confirmed.

Police said the scene was secured around 5:30 p.m. The male suspect was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The woman was shot multiple times. Authorities said it did not appear to be a random shooting, based on preliminary information.
