Teen girls arrested after police chase, crash in stolen SUV

INDIANAPOLIS – Two teenage girls are in custody after police say they stole an SUV and led police on a chase.

According to officers, an SUV was stolen shortly after midnight from the area of Rockville Road and I-465 on the west side.

Police found the vehicle near West Washington Street and Lyndhurst Drive a little while later. Police say they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the SUV refused to stop.

According to officers, a chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 80 miles-per-hour.

The SUV eventually crashed through a fence and into trees at Lilly Recreation Park near the intersection of West Raymond and Harding Streets.

Two teenage girls were taken into custody, police say.

No injuries were reported during the crash.
