Indianapolis police arrest suspect in east side murder investigation

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department quickly arrested a suspect after a fatal shooting on the city’s east side.

IMPD officers responded to the 3600 block of Celtic Drive around 11 a.m. on Thursday. When officers arrived they found Andre Phillips, 34, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Phillips was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Phillips was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Homicide detectives learned Phillips was last seen alive with Charles Mitchell, 19.  Within a few hours after the murder, undercover detectives from the Violent Crime and Gang Unit were able to locate and detain Mitchell for questioning.

Mitchell was arrested and preliminarily charged with one count of murder.
