Kidnapping investigation leads to arrest of 27-year-old Indianapolis man on unrelated charges

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—A 27-year-old Indianapolis man was arrested after Indiana State Police received a report of a possible kidnapping of an adult male.

Just after 6 p.m. Monday, ISP received a 911 call reporting a man forced another man into a truck at gunpoint and drove away. The caller proceeded to follow the truck and provided updates to dispatch until officers could arrive.

As the truck headed south on I-65 into Johnson County, officers with the Franklin Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop. Further investigation indicated the incident was not a random abduction and that they victim and suspect knew each other.

Officers arrested the suspect, 27-year-old James Crittenden, on unrelated warrants out of Marion County. He was wanted on charges of possession of cocaine and conversion.

Authorities questioned the victim and the other occupants of the truck before releasing them. Officers recovered a stolen gun from the vehicle.

Further charges are possible after a review by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
