AVON, Ind. – Family members of one of the victims killed in the attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando live in Avon, Indiana.

Darryl 'DJ' Roman Burt II, 29, of Jacksonville, was one of 49 people killed Sunday.

Burt graduated from Plainfield High School in 2005.

"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events in Orlando," said the school's superintendent. "And we grieve with the family of PHS graduate, Darryl Burt, class of 2005."

CBS4’s Lindsey Eaton briefly spoke with Burt’s father at his Avon home Monday, who stated his family wanted privacy.  Burt's father did say his son "just graduated and just walked the stage."

Keiser University officials say Burt was an employee of their Jacksonville campus.

“Darryl was a highly respected member of the KU team, and his contributions to our students and his colleagues will not be forgotten,” said the university’s chancellor.

We've also learned that Burt attended Claflin University from 2005 to 2007 while majoring in English and he was an active member of the group Junior Chamber International-Florida (Jaycees) in Jacksonville.

Kelly Riggles, State President of JCI, released the following statement:

The attack that occurred in Orlando, Florida this past weekend saddens all of us. As members of JCI Florida, we will be reaching out to see how we, as active young citizens, can best support the Orlando community in recovery of this senseless act of violence.

It is with great sadness that I share with you that this tragedy has affected the JCI Florida community not simply because it is an atrocity that occurred in our state, but because this attack took one of our own members; Darryl Roman Burt II, Jacksonville Jaycees (FL). During this time of need, please keep Darryl's family, friends, and the members of the Jacksonville Jaycees in your thoughts and prayers.

If inclined, please consider supporting Darryl's family with the unexpected expenses this tragedy has incurred at:
