Police arrest father after 5-month-old Crawfordsville boy found to have brain trauma, skull fracture
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.– Police arrested a 26-year-old man after his son was found to have severe brain trauma and a skull fracture.
Police responded to Steven Allen Filley’s apartment in the 400 block of South Walnut Street in Crawfordsville Tuesday morning around 8 p.m. on a report of an unresponsive 5-month-old boy.
Filley’s son was transported to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health with head injuries before being airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where he remains in “very grave” condition with severe brain trauma and a skull fracture.
Filley told police he found the boy unresponsive, and then tripped and fell with him while on his way to call 911. Medical experts said the injuries were not consistent with that story.
Filley was arrested Thursday and taken to the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary felony charges of battery, aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
The Child Protective Services of Montgomery County is involved with the ongoing investigation. Additional charges may still be filed.
