NASHVILLE, Ind. – The trial for a man charged in the murder of an Indiana University student will likely stay in Brown County.
On Wednesday, 29 Brown County residents were called as test jurors in the case of Daniel Messel, who’s accused of killing 22-year-old IU student Hannah Wilson.
Messel’s attorney had asked for a change of venue in the case, citing high local interest and media coverage of Wilson’s death and Messel’s subsequent arrest.
Judge Judith Stewart said she didn’t think a change of venue was necessary after she questioned the test jurors in court Wednesday.
The change of venue motion remains under advisement. Messel’s trial, which has been pushed back twice, is scheduled for Aug. 1.
