Suspect found dead inside east side home after SWAT standoff

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – IMPD and SWAT were on the scene of a standoff Thursday on the city’s east side,

Police were responding to a call in the 3600 block of North Denny Street near North Sherman Drive around 2 p.m. They located a house that was damaged by gunfire.

The officers made contact with the man inside of the home, and he was saying very strange things. At one point, an officer reached for the door handle, and the suspect fired a shot.

At that point, officers retreated and called SWAT to the scene.

Negotiators tried talking to the man for more than an hour but did not hear from him. They threw in gas, but nobody came out.

Police then sent in a robot, and found a man dead inside. They said it appeared he died from a gunshot wound. None of the officers fired their weapons.

No other people were located inside the home.
