CENTER GROVE, Ind. - The Center Grove Board of School Trustees is holding a community forum Thursday evening to get input on transgender students.

The main topic is whether the current transgender policy needs to be changed.

The district says it has a discrimination-free environment, but it’s reviewing current policies.

Thursday’s meeting is in response to guidance in May from the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education that included allowing students to use the bathroom, locker room and overnight accommodations for the gender they identify with over the gender they were born with.

That stands over student or parental objections and state laws.

It’s not a law itself, but schools that don’t comply could face lawsuits and lose federal funding.

Center Grove Policy Forum:

  • Thursday, June 2, 6:30-8 p.m.
  • Center Grove High School Auditorium (2717 S. Morgantown Road., Greenwood)
  • Center Grove parents and White River Township residents are invited.

Center Grove representatives would not comment on the forum beforehand. They will also not answer questions at the event.
