RICHMOND, Ind. – A Connecticut-based pet food company will put a new manufacturing facility in Richmond, creating up to 165 new jobs.
Blue Buffalo Pet Products will invest more than $100 million to build and equip the production and distribution facility at 4748 Industries Road. The complex will include a state-of-the-art pet food manufacturing plant and a research and development center. It’s the company’s second plant in the U.S.
Blue Buffalo, which was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Connecticut, makes natural pet food and treats for dogs and cats that are sold nationwide through pet stores. The company will break ground on the new plant this year and will have positions available in food processing, food quality assurance and general management.
It’s the fourth pet food producer to set up shop in Wayne County.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Blue Buffalo more than $1.6 million in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. Wayne County and the city of Richmond have approved additional incentives for the company at IEDC’s request.
