INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Seven ducklings have been reunited with their mother thanks to some observant residents and the help of Indianapolis Fire Department Station 35.

This morning Summer Mefford spotted a duck near a storm drain in the road at Madison Avenue and East Stop 11 Road. She didn’t think anything of it until a little later when she saw a woman trying to move the duck out of the road. Mefford asked the woman, whose name is Carrie, what she was doing, and Carrie told her seven ducklings had fallen down the drain.

Mefford told her co-worker Katie Woolen about it; they called several different agencies for help, but no one was able to come out. They reached out to IFD station 35 for help, and Woolen says they came out within minutes.

One of the firefighters climbed into the drain, and they were able to get the ducklings out within a matter of minutes.

The ducklings were reunited with their mother and they waddled off together.
