Kanaan tops speed chart at final Indianapolis 500 practice
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – It’s been a challenging two weeks of practice at times for Tony Kanaan, but the 2013 Indianapolis 500 champion may have found something when he needs it most.
The Chip Ganassi driver posted a 226.280 mph lap, a mile-and-a-half per hour better than second-best Carlos Munoz.
“The car feels good,” Kanaan said after the practice session. “You never get fast here cause you’re lucky. I’m happy with the race car. We have a day to think about it. We made a couple changes I think we can use in the race, and (I’m) ready to go.”
Kanaan has struggled to find speed throughout practice overall, and will start the race on the outside of row six in 18th position.
“Nothing counts until Sunday,” Kanaan reminded us. “We get caught in a situation where you get frustrated cause you’re not on top of the charts all the time. You need to focus on the big prize, which is the race. We’ve got the right car for the right day, which is two days from now.”
The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 is set for noon on Sunday, May 29.
