(May 27, 2016) – Ahead of the 100th running of the Indy 500, Carb Day is the biggest in a long time as well.
Police officers are stationed a mile away from the track helping direct traffic for the thousands of people going to and around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Several people we spoke to said it took them 45 minutes to an hour to get to the track once they were already in the town of Speedway, but felt it was worth it for such a historic year.
During the pit stop competition, our crews were out and about around the track, checking out the crowds, fashion and pit team winners.
The gallery includes a photo of 2009 Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves climbing the fence facing the crowd after his team won the 2016 pit stop competition.
