SPEEDWAY, Ind.- With just under three weeks to go before the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, officials in Speedway are putting the final touches on a massive overhaul of the town's Main Street. Several new bars and restaurants are among the changes that are all part of the multi-million dollar face lift.

“To be putting the finishing touches on it, hanging banners and mulching around flower beds is a pretty good spot for us,” said Ian Nicolini, Speedway's Town Manager. "But really we’ve got a lot of economic development and businesses too that are scrambling to get ready here.”

One of the businesses that's not scrambling is Big Woods Brewing Company, which opened its doors Monday. Partner Jeff McCabe says construction of the restaurant was finished in seven months--just in time for the historic race this year.

"It’s a great time to open a new business in Speedway that’s for sure," said McCabe, "but there’s a lot of excitement in Speedway now all during the year.”

Not only does the expansion include new shopping and eateries, but will also be home to several high-end manufacturing facilities as well. Next week, ground will also be broken on a $40million mixed-use development project that will include more restaurants and living space.

Town officials expect large crowds leading up to race day and there will be traffic restrictions in place during race weekend.
