Fire causes $170,000 worth of damage to northeast side home

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A house fire on the northeast side caused around $170,000 worth of damage Friday night.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was sent to the home in the 5800 block of Ashurst Street around 10:12 p.m. after several 911 calls.

The single story home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The fire department says the fire was under control by 10:52 p.m.

The fire chief estimates the damage to be around $170,000.

The homeowner, Matt Stahley, 38, had lived in there for a year and has insurance. He was not home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
