INDIANAPOLIS (April 21, 2016) – Almost one month after the birth of the Indianapolis Zoo’s first Sumatran Orangutan, it is time to choose a name!

Five names have been preselected for the baby girl by the zoo, but they want your help choosing one. The name that receives the most votes will be chosen.

Voting begins today at 6 a.m. and will continue through noon on May 2. The zoo will announce the final results on May 3.

The options are:

  • Kiki (KEE-kee), the name of Sirih’s great-grandmother
  • Kitri (KEE-tree), meaning “rare” in Indonesian
  • Mila (MEE-lah), an Indonesian word meaning “dear one”
  • Narah (NAH-rah), meaning “truth” in Indonesian
  • Ndari (in-DAH-ree), an Indonesian word meaning “full moon,” which also coincides with the day the baby was born

Facebook users can vote once a day on the Indianapolis Zoo’s Facebook page. The zoo will also choose one fan to receive a prize pack, including an orangutan plush and four Zoo admission passes.
