Jury finds man guilty of robbery and murder in 2012 Craigslist killing
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 20, 2016) – A jury found a man guilty of robbing and murdering a man under the guise of buying a cell phone from him on Craigslist.
On Dec. 17, 2012, Nishant Patel agreed to meet with potential buyers Bryant Dowdy and Dominique Clanton. Patel had advertised his phone for sale online. During the meeting at an east side apartment complex, the pair robbed Patel; Dowdy shot and killed him.
Jurors found Dowdy guilty of murder and robbery. He’ll be sentenced on Thursday.
Clanton was also charged with robbery and murder. However, he agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and will be sentenced on Friday.
In May 2015, Dowdy was sentenced to 75 years for the attempted murder of Dominique Clanton and the murder of Eric Clanton, Dominique Clanton’s cousin. Dowdy shot both of them on Dec. 18, 2012, the day after Patel’s death. Investigators found Patel’s cell phone next to Eric Clanton’s body.
