INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 20, 2016) – An Indianapolis homeowner hit a major setback this week after someone broke into his home and stole his brand new appliances.
Uzi Kamal, a 25-year-old dental student, bought his first home in the 500 block of North Sheffield Avenue to be close to his classes at IUPUI.
“Now that I’m going to be in my clinical phase, I can’t afford to be late for my appointments so that’s why it’s important for me to be close by," Kamal said. “It’s not the welcome I was hoping for with my first house.”
Kamal bought the house at an auction and planned to spend around $15,000 to fix it up.
"It’s clearly going to have a lot more now with this damage," he said.
Thieves took a black Frigidaire stove and refrigerator as well as a washer and dryer. Now Kamal is deciding what to do next.
"It is just scary to know this neighborhood is that unsafe and I’ve already lost enough I just don’t know If I can live here a couple more years and risk losing more.”
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the appliances is asked to call police at 262-TIPS.
