CAMBY, Ind. (April 5, 2016) -- Police are investigating a Monday shooting at a Camby shopping center as an attempted murder-suicide.
According to the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office, officers were called to 8411 Windfall Lane in Camby around 5:25 p.m. Monday. They found Nina Himes, 53, and Thomas Himes, 60, both shot. The married couple had been arguing in a car over a domestic violence case, police said. During that argument, Thomas Himes drew a pistol and shot his wife, who suffered a graze wound to the leg and a gunshot wound to the head.
Thomas Himes then exited the vehicle and shot himself in the head, police said. He was declared dead at the scene. Nina Himes went to Eskenazi Hospital and has been able to speak with investigators.
“My understanding is part of the dispute was over a pending domestic violence case between them," Capt. Amanda Goings with the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office said Monday. "There was a no-contact order in place, and for whatever reason, they decided to meet here for a conversation, and it did not end well. We are thankful that the situation was contained to a rather small area, and nobody else was hurt. Thank goodness for that.”
