Zionsville woman escapes attempted kidnapping, police search for suspect

Update: A woman was arrested and charged with false informing in connection with this report. Police say Tina Rattinger, 35, fabricated every detail of the attempted kidnapping.

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (March 29, 2016) – Zionsville police are searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a woman as she was taking out her trash.

According to police, the attempted kidnapping occurred Monday morning around 11:30 a.m. in The Domain at Bennett Farms Apartments.

The victim was taking her trash to the dumpster when a white van with no markings and a ladder on top pulled up.

The victim told police a Hispanic male got out of the van, and he grabbed her from behind as she was placing her trash in the compactor. The man held a knife to the woman’s neck, and he attempted to pull her into the van.

The victim was injured as she fought back, but she was able to free herself and run away.

A description of the attempted abductor and his van are as follows:

  • White boxy type Van with no windows
  • Large ladder on top of van with no markings of any kind
  • Hispanic male about 5’8” to 5’10” with shaved or bald head
  • Light facial hair
