New roundabout prep work to begin Wednesday in Tipton County on US 31 and SR 28
Howard County, Ind. (March 29, 2016)– Preliminary work on the construction of a roundabout at U.S. 31 and State Road 28 will begin Wednesday as workers move in temporary concrete barrier walls along the median and shoulders of the highway.
Motorists should plan for daytime left-lane restrictions both northbound and southbound on U.S. 31 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. One lane will remain open in each direction during this time.
State Road 28 is tentatively scheduled to close for up to 120 days beginning in June with a specific closing date announced in the later this Spring.
At the same time as the State Road 28 closure, U.S. 31 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and direct access to and from State Road 28 will be unavailable.
When State Road 28 is closed for the construction, a signed detour will direct highway traffic north to State Road 26 via State Road 29 and State Road 19. Local motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and seek their best alternate routes.
Drivers can see a map of this project and other state highway work zones and road closures by visiting the INDOT website, indot.carsprogram.org.
All new traffic configurations, including the new roundabout interchange and State Road 28 access bridge over U.S. 31, are expected to open in November.
