Police arrest two men allegedly targeting and robbing Latino residents on the northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Two men are now behind bars after police say they committed several robberies around Indianapolis.

“Just really pay attention to your surroundings,” says a worried resident.

Police say the duo, 23-year-old Shaquille Washington and 21-year-old Brian Artis Jr. were targeting Latino victims. Stealing cash and valuables from innocent people and then fleeing the scene.

“The language issue could be one of the reasons too, they may not report them,” says a resident.

Police caught Washington and Artis Jr. just seconds after they robbed a Latino woman who was walking alone around 9:00 Friday night near West 38th Street. She was not injured, but police found a handgun cash, and other valuables when they arrested the men.

“It is not just Hispanics, it is not just black people, it is everybody,” says a resident.

IMPD says to avoid carrying lots of cash and to always keep your keys out when you are walking to your car so you can get inside easily. Also, keep your cellphone handy so you can call police if you need to call for help.

“I just try and stay alert, I try and see if I see anybody that looks unusual,” says a resident.

Both suspects were preliminarily charged with robbery; however detectives are expected to seek additional charges against the suspect’s reference other robberies once more investigative information becomes available.
