Howard County community “goes blue” for fallen deputy
HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (March 26, 2016) — The Howard County community is “going blue” in honor of Deputy Carl Koontz and Sgt. Jordan Buckley.
The two officers were shot while serving a search warrant in Russiaville last weekend. Sgt. Buckley is recovering from his wounds, but Deputy Koontz passed away at the hospital.
Saturday, Indiana Conservation Officers partnered with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department and the Kokomo Police Department to hand out blue light bulbs. Community members have been displaying the light bulbs outside of their homes to signify support for law enforcement for the past week.
Home improvement stores in the area sold out quickly, but officers came to the rescue.
Saturday, officers handed out more than 1,000 blue light bulbs and collected more than $6,000 for the families of Deputy Koontz and Sgt. Buckley.
The “Go Blue” initiative by Lowe’s Company Incorporated is also having more than 500 blue light bulbs shipped from across the country to hand out to the public in Howard County free of charge.
Anyone wanting to give monetary donations to the families can do so through the Kokomo chapter of the F.O.P.
