Armed robbery suspects face additional charges after officer involved shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 26, 2016)–IMPD detectives have made two arrests in connection with an officer involved shooting following an armed robbery at a west side gas station.

Both suspects are charged with robbery and resisting law enforcement.

The juvenile suspect was additionally charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

The adult suspect, Miguel Duran-Vasquez was additionally charged with Possession of marijuana.

The arrests follow the investigation into the robbery Thursday of Thornton’s gas station in the 6800 block of West Washington Street.

Officers spotted two men matching the suspects description at a nearby apartment complex in the 1400 block of Panama Avenue.

Police say when officers approached the suspects to question them, one drew a gun from his waistband. According to police, one of the officers fired his weapon once, striking one of the suspects.

The injured suspect was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

According to officials, the second suspect fled and was caught a short time later after K-9 officers and an IMPD helicopter located him. He was taken into custody without incident.

Officer Douglas Himmel is currently on Administrative Duty receiving the proper evaluation and treatment and is expected to return to work soon.
