KAUFMAN, Texas (March 23, 2016) – A man walked into a Walmart store in Texas and fatally shot a worker Tuesday before turning the gun on himself, police say.

According to KTVT, the shooting happened around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at a store on Kings Fort Parkway. At first, the call came in as an active shooter; police later characterized it as a murder-suicide.

Police said Donald Ray Coleman, 55, fired at employee John Morgan in the garden center. Morgan, 59, was killed; police originally said Coleman also died but later clarified that he’d been taken to an area hospital.

Authorities said the two men knew each other. It appeared Coleman had threatened Morgan before over an altercation involving Coleman’s ex-wife, KTVT reported.

Nearby schools and businesses went on lockdown after the shooting, and the Walmart was evacuated. The store released a statement about the shooting:

“We’re deeply saddened by the tragic situation that occurred in our store today. We’re assisting law enforcement however we can and our thoughts are with the families and our associates at this time.”
