Police action shooting leaves one dead in Ft. Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (March 21, 2016) – Police say a man is dead after shooting at police in Fort Wayne Sunday night.
Officials say officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department and Indiana State Police responded to a call about shots fired at an AutoZone south of downtown around 9:30 p.m.
When they arrived on scene, officers found a man with a gun outside of the business. According to police, the suspect began to fire shots at officers while trying to flee.
Police officials say the officers returned fire and struck the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say there was also a man inside the AutoZone who was hit by the suspect’s initial gunfire, He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
This incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police, Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
