MADISON, Ind. (March 17, 2016)– Police in Madison say they are investigating an explosion for the second time in less than two weeks.

According to WDRB, the first explosion happened across from the Madison Police Department. The second explosion happened Wednesday in the driveway of a home on Cherry Trace belonging to a Jefferson County judge.

Police do not have anyone in custody, but believe the incidents are connected.

“Based on the fact that the first one was in our city hall police department parking lot and now we have a judge — judge’s residence, yes, as I said, we are taking that as a directed threat to our criminal justice system,” said Madison Police Chief Dan Thurston to WDRB.

“If you are a neighbor or family member of a judge, prosecuting attorney, defense attorney or police officer, please be vigilant and observant in your area,” he said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Madison Police Department at 812-265-3345 or the ATF tip line at 1-888-367-5762 or 1-888-ATF-TIPS.
